Earlier last week budget airline-carrier Ryanair announced they were considering plans to create standing seats on their aircraft, selling seats for as little as four pounds. Ryanair owner Michael O’Leary described the vertical seats as ‘barstools with seatbelts’, and was designed for those looking for a bargain.
However, aviation experts and even associates of Ryanair have refuted these claims. Spokesman Nick West states,” We are not considering standing-only accommodations, nor do we have any plans to do so. Among other things, stringent regulatory requirements - including seats capable of withstanding a force of 16 Gs - pretty much preclude such an arrangement."
Whether or not these plans will be carried out remains undetermined, but it is not the first time Ryanair have publicised outlandish ideas. Last year the airlines publicised plans to charge passengers to use the toilets, and also allocate a ‘fat-tax’ to all their overweight passengers too.
