Product Review: Vango Juno Teepee 500

With its fun prints and retro shape, the Juno Teepee was certain to be a favourite for festival-goers last summer. So popular in fact, that they continue to sell alongside their improved model, the Green Tee 500DLX. So it was without a doubt that when I went to 2000 Trees festival this past weekend my friends and I chose this tent first.

One very useful thing about this tent was that it was easy to find among the sea of tents in the fields. Even in the middle of the night it was easy to spot, something you’re very grateful for when you’re drunk and tired and hoping to avoid the uncomfortable situation of accidentally sleeping in someone else’s tent.

Pitching was a little difficult, but not unmanageable. Definitely a job for at least two people, setting the pole up in the middle proved time-consuming and a job designated preferably for your tall friends. Admittedly, I had some reservations about our entire tent being supported by a single pole, but it proved incredibly resilient. Just make sure the clumsy one of your group is the furthest from the pole.

Rain and festivals go hand in hand, so of course our main concern for the tent was its waterproofness. After a steady stream of showers over the weekend, we were desperate to make sure our tent could withstand the weather. With its 2000HH, it held the water off sufficiently, but by the second night the flysheet was soaked through.

Vango claims the Juno Teepee 500 fits 5 people, but after three of us camped in the tent with our rucksacks (there’s no porch section to the tent) there was little space for anyone else. Perhaps more people can fit however if you have less luggage between everyone.

Overall the Juno Teepee 500 is a great tent for festivals and any easy-going weekend excursions, just don’t expect it to tackle severe weather or rough terrain.
